WhatsApp launches new Status feature, Inspired by Snapchat Stories

WhatsApp being a true messaging application had options to send GIFs, images, and videos in chats. The ‘Calls’ feature had made it a much better software application. But now it looks like the Facebook owned company is out to annihilate Snapchat.

WhatsApp Status, the new feature lets its user upload photos and videos overlaid with drawings, emojis and a caption for their contacts to see, instead of a simple text-based status message that will be visible to selected friends for 24 hours, before disappearing. This feature must be sounding similar to you, doesn’t it?

This WhatsApp feature, being rolled out on Monday is an exact clone of Instagram Stories, which was inspired by  Snapchat’s feature. The feature is live on Android, iOS and Windows smartphones across the world.

On iOS, Whatsapp’s Status will receive its own tab on the extreme left at the bottom, followed by Calls, then Camera in the middle, followed by Chats and then Settings. While on Android, the tabs will be in the order like this: Camera, Chats, Status and then Calls. Users will be able to view their contacts, recent status updates and the replies they’ve received on their own status. Users also have the option to tweak their privacy settings to make their status visible only to specific people.

Now the question is will this new feature of WhatsApp hamper the most loved and original stories created app.
