Here are seven Hollywood movies that are too similar to Bollywood for our comfort:
1. Delivery Man – Vicky Donor
Ayushmann Khurrana fans will be very happy to know that their favourite actor’s movie, Vicky Donor has inspired the plot of Hollywood movie released under the name, The Delivery Man. Both the movies have heroes who donate sperm in exchange of money, and hundreds of kids were born to them. The plot of The Delivery Man is too similar to Vicky Donor to pass it of as a co-incidence.
2. Leap Year – Jab We Met
The makers of Leap Year claim it is not inspired from iconic movie, Jab We Met. But, the scenes and story are way too familiar for us to go with what they say. Both the movies are about a verbose girl, who is determined to run away from her home to her boyfriend, and propose to him for marriage. On the way, she meets a very down-to-earth, but sad man and takes help from him. They argue, stay at a hotel and are forced to share a room, and finally, they fall in love. Then they separate, and both of their lives are changed forever. They reunite.
3. Fear – Darr
The literal English translation of this 1996 film isn’t all that Fear & Darr, one of Shah Rukh Khan’s most appreciated films, have in common. Suffice it to say that it doesn’t take a dedicated SRK fangirl to paly spot the differences between the Bollywood movie and its ‘inspired’ Hollywood counterpart.
4. A Common Man – A Wednesday
A Wednesday directed by Neeraj Pandey was a brilliant cinema. So there was no surprise or shock value when we learnt that Hollywood makers sought inspiration from this movie to make A Common Man starring Ben Kingsley.
5. Win A Date With Tad Hamilton – Rangeela
Loved Rangeela? Apparently Hollywood did too, for nine years after its release, Win A Date With Tad Hamilton hit cinema screens abroad, and barring certain differences in plot detailing, had enough in common with the former to set alarm bells ringing.
6. Pearl Harbor – Sangam
The 2001 epic war drama may have carved a name for itself abroad, but the startling similarities in the almost identical love triangles in Pearl Harbor & Sangam mean that Raj Kapoor fans haven’t been able to get a good night’s sleep in ages.
7.Hitch – Chhoti Si Baat
No prize for guessing from where Salman Khan and Govinda starrer comedy movie, Partner was inspired from. Yes, the movie that left your stomach aching with so much laughter was inspired by Hitch. Well, this does not end here, Hitch was in turn inspired from an Indian classic, Chhoti Si Baat, but no one said so publicly. Chhoti Si Baat portrays a man (veteran actor Amol Palekar), who tries to woo a girl, but fails everytime. He seeks help from a man (love guru) who claims to change people’s lives in exchange of money.
8. Kill Bill -Abhay
We are not accusing anything here, but the director of Kill Bil, Quentin Tarentino himself told Anurag Kashyap that many action scenes in his movies were inspired from Kamal Haasan’s Abhay movie which released in multiple languages.
9. Just Go With It – Maine Pyaar Kyun Kiya?
The 2011 Just Go With It movie is very similar to that of the 2005 Salman Khan film, the reason being both are inspired from Cacturs Flower, a 1969 movie but with different story line.
