Today, in an all new session of THE READING ROOM, we are going to review Butterfly Season by Natasha Ahmed
On her first holiday in six years, Rumi is expecting to relax and unwind. But when she is set up by her long-time friend, she doesn’t shy away from the possibilities. Ahad, a charming, independent, self-made man, captures her imagination, drawing her away from her disapproving sister, Juveria.
Faced with sizzling chemistry and a meeting of the minds, Ahad and Rumi find themselves deep in a relationship that moves forward with growing intensity. But as her desire for the self-assured Ahad grows, Rumi struggles with a decision that will impact the rest of her life.
Confronted by her scandalized sister, a forbidding uncle and a society that frowns on pre-marital intimacy, Rumi has to decide whether to shed her middle-class sensibilities, turning her back on her family, or return to her secluded existence as an unmarried woman in Pakistan.
We follow Rumi from rainy London to a sweltering Karachi, as she tries to take control of her own destiny.
What to say about a book which need no review no rating, which has its own voice, rather a very beautiful voice. I have never read anything from a Pakistani Author. Though I have read The Reluctant Fundamentalist but I always wanted to know how my other part of India feels like. The author Natasha Ahmed has crafted a very beautiful journey of the protagonist Rumi. It’s not a journey from Karachi to London or from London to Karachi but a journey from darkness to light, seeking truth from untruth and finally it is a story where Rumi discovers and finds her identity, her true self. Along with all these, it is a story- a fun filled story. The only thing I felt about this book is that, it is very short, I mean I was craving for more, to know more about Rumi, but never mind. After reading this book I am sure that you will feel a new season around you- A BUTTERFLY SEASON. I am sure that you all will love the characters in the book.
The story begins with Rumi, a 30 something woman from Karachi lands up at London for a vacation with her family. There she meets Ahad, a handsome publisher brought up in London. They embark on a journey filled with love and romance for some days. In those few days they break a lot of norms and barriers. Rumi finds out a new way, a new life, yes, it was different and best from the life she had in Karachi. Rumi finds a new breeze of life so did Ahad, who got to know about his real identity- his roots. In this journey they fell in love.
What happenes next? Will Rumi and Ahad continue their new found love? Could two people from two different worlds be able to come together and face the world? What will happen to Rumi, when her sister and her conservative family come to know about this? To know more go to any e-commerce site and order it. HURRY!!! I bet, you can’t miss reading this.
