Today, in an all new session of THE READING ROOM, we are going to review The Devil’s Gate: An Impossible Journey by Deepak Kripal.

  • Book Description

Devil's gate

Not being able to withstand the destruction of natural habitat by humans, the animal kingdom is left with no choice but to seek help from demons to fight against men. A cat named Kat and a dog named Dug are assigned the mission of going to the demon world and negotiating help from them. But the devil island is visible to mortals only on full moon nights for a short time. Kat and Dug don’t know if they’ll be able to find the island or speak to demons or even get out from there alive. But nonetheless they start off their adventure.

  • My View

The storyline and characters of this book are very different from the typical novels. Took a while to get the hang of it, but once I got past the initial reluctance, the story seemed quite interesting. The author has very well portrayed the currently relevant environmental issue of deforestation from the victims’ (the animal kingdom) perspective.

The cover photo looked unimpressive. Lengthy sentences, especially in the first few chapters, were big hindrances to the flow of the story. I also came across some typos throughout the book.

To sum up, The Devil’s Gate: An Impossible Journey by the first time author Deepak Kripal is one of a kind and definitely worth reading.

My rating: 3.5/5
