Bollywood actor Kareena Kapoor Khan has rejected films that have gone on to become blockbusters. “There is no heroine like me who has left more films than I have, and given them on a platter to everybody and said go do it. I think I am mad…I am like if I don’t want to do a film I will not to do it. I would sit at home and enjoy, party and travel,” Kareena said.
So let’s take a list of movies that Bebo has rejected so far.
Kaho Na Pyar Hai
The film which made Ameesha an overnight star was initially offered to Kareena Kapoor Khan. But after shooting for a couple of days, Kareena walked out of the film as she thought the film focused more on Hrithik than on the female lead. Ameesha Patel was then offered this role which she gladly accepted. Hrithik and Ameesha emerged as the cutest couple overnight. Till today, Kaho Na Pyar Hai is considered to be one of the most romantic movies ever.
Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam
A beautiful work of art by Sanjay Leela Bhansali! Sanjay wanted Kareena to be a part of this project but somehow it didnt work out. Kareena must have definitely regretted not being a part of this blockbuster!
Just to refresh your memory, Black won two National Awards and was included in the 10 Best Movies of the Year around the globe by the prestigious Time Magazine. Yes, Bebo rejected this one too.
Kal Ho Na Ho
Guess who was offered the role of the bubbly ‘Naina’ in Karan Johar’s Kal Ho Na Ho? Well, it was Kareena Kapoor. Kareena’s refusal turned things sour between her and KJo. The film was later offered to Preity Zinta, who still considers Kal Ho Na Ho as her best film ever. Karan Johar and Kareena bridged their differences on Karan’s chat show, Koffee With Karan.
We all know that Kareena was Madhur Bhandarkar’s second choice for Heroine but very few know that she was his first choice to play the lead role in Fashion. However, Kareena’s tight schedule did not permit her to take up this film. Madhur presented the idea to Priyanka and she immediately agreed to play the part. Priyanka even won a National Award for her role. Things have not been going smooth between Kareena and Priyanka ever since.
Goliyon Ki Rasleela Ram-Leela
This Bhansali directorial was supposed to star Ranveer Singh and Kareena in the lead. However, Bebo rejected this film for Karan Johar’s production venture Gori Tere Pyaar Mein which tanked at the BO. Eventually Deepika Padukone ended up doing the film for which she earned much acclaim and few awards as well.
Believe it or not but Kangana Ranaut wasn’t the first choice for Queen. It was Kareena Kapoor Khan. Yes, Vikas Bahl’s directorial venture would have had Bebo in the lead if things had fallen into place. Now I know that Saifu’s wife doesn’t regret rejecting any of the films but this one sure must have hurt now that Ms Ranaut has won the National Award for her performance in Queen.
This is Deepika Padukone’s biggest blockbuster till date but things would have been different if Kareena had done this film. Yes, Shah Rukh Khan was to star with his RA.One heroine in Rohit Shetty’s Chennai Express but things didn’t work out and again the film finally went to Ms Padukone.
Dil Dhadakne Do
Talking about why she didn’t star in Zoya Akhtar’s Dil Dhadakne Do, the Begum of Pataudi said, “It’s my loss because I love Zoya, but couldn’t be part of her film. I am dying to work with her. Inshallah, this isn’t the last film she is going to make, and it’s not the last film that I’m not able to do. Aage bhi bahut padi hai zindagi (there’s life ahead). Whenever she has a role for me, I’ll definitely do it.”
It is said that ten years ago, Sanjay Leela Bhansali planned to make Bajirao Mastani with Kareena and Salman but they kept on delaying so finally Bhansali went ahead and made themovie with new cast comprising of Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. Going by the response the posters and teaser trailer of Bajirao Mastani have received, it surely looks like the movie will be Kareena’s loss.
